Understanding SQL Server Evangelism

During a recent SQL Server Public Training, I had an interesting conversation with a few individuals that got me thinking about the role of an SQL Server Evangelist. In this blog post, I will address the questions raised during that conversation and provide insights into the concept of technology evangelism.

Who is Vinod Kumar?

Vinod Kumar is a highly respected Technology Evangelist for Microsoft and a prominent figure in the SQL Server Community in India. Known for his exceptional speaking skills and in-depth knowledge of SQL Server, Vinod Kumar has earned a reputation as one of the best speakers in the industry. Attendees flock to his sessions because they know they will be captivated by his storytelling abilities and leave with valuable insights.

What is Technology Evangelism?

Technology evangelism is a term used to describe the role of individuals who promote and advocate for a particular technology or product. In the context of SQL Server, technology evangelists like Vinod Kumar play a crucial role in spreading awareness, educating users, and driving adoption of SQL Server technology.

Vinod Kumar has written several insightful blog posts on the topic of technology evangelism, which I highly recommend reading:

  1. Evangelism beyond boundaries with an Evangelists !!!
  2. Technology Evangelism Demystified
  3. New face of Online Technology Evangelism

These articles provide a comprehensive understanding of the principles and practices of technology evangelism, shedding light on the responsibilities and impact of this role.

It is important to note that being an SQL Server MVP, like myself, often comes with the title of an evangelist. Many individuals in the SQL Server community are passionate about promoting and advocating for the technology they love. We all share the responsibility of being technology evangelists in our own right.

While the term “evangelist” may carry different connotations for different people, it is a role that commands respect and requires individuals to bear significant responsibilities. Whether we officially hold the title or not, we can all contribute to the growth and success of SQL Server by sharing our knowledge, experiences, and enthusiasm with others.

So, the next time you come across the term “SQL Server Evangelist,” remember the passion, dedication, and impact that these individuals bring to the community.
